  • What is the difference between a 'class' and a 'program'
While we are just beginning to get our feet under us, this differentiation may change in the future, for now... A Program is a collection of guided and self-paced learning modules. Some may need to be completed on a schedule, or within a certain amount of time. Others will be completely self-paced. Some may be certificate-yielding, others may not. Some programs are completely free, others are paid premium content, accessible through one-time payments or subscriptions. A Class is a scheduled class (usually a live online class using Zoom or Teams) where a group of students all go through the course materials together in real time. Most classes will be paid, a few may be offered for free (probably with limited class size).
  • I've heard the CSM exam is open-book
You are allowed to use whatever reference materials you want. You are even technically allowed to take the exam with the other students you met in class. The instructor cannot help you assemble a group though. The big rule is that you cannot have anyone help you if they are already certified by Scrum Alliance.
  • I took the CSM/CSPO class 10 years ago and my certification lapsed. Is it the same class?
Yes and no. The certification is the same, but everything else is different. Scrum today is very different than Scrum 10 years ago. Scrum continues to evolve.
  • Is there prep-work for this class?
This all depends on which course you are talking about. If you are asking about a Scrum related class, please read the the Agile Manifesto and the Scrum Guide. Dysfunction Mapping requires you to have experience with Scrum and/or Kanban, so the same above will apply. Project Management inquiries: None needed at this time.
  • Can I take the class twice?
If you take the class once with us, we’ll allow you to keep taking it as a refresher for free. If you took it from another trainer, and you had a bad experience, email us at info@newworldwork.com – we might let you take it from us for free (depends on circumstances).
  • How do the 'Programs' work?
Many of our learning programs are self-paced. There are articles to read, videos to watch and activities to complete. Once a program has been completed, you can move on to another. In fact, there's not currently a limit on how many programs you can be enrolled in at one time. If the program is a certificate producing program, you will receive a digital certificate upon completion. Some Programs are free, some are paid content only.
  • Scrum Masters are just Agile Project Managers, right?
No. Not at all. Project Managers are Project Managers. Scrum Masters are something totally different. Please leave all of your Project Managment experience at home when you take a Scrum Master class.
  • Why isn't the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) exam done during the class?
The big reason is because trainers are not allowed to help students with the exam. Students take the exam on their own, when they feel the time is right for them. You have until 90 days after class to take the exam – we encourage students to take it within 48 hours of the end of class.
  • If I join a Program, can I quit it?
Absolutely! If you are gaining value from the program in any way, you are under no obligation to complete it.
  • All I need to do is attend the class, right?
Actually, attendance is mandatory, but participation is actually the big thing. For virtual classes, you can’t just turn on Zoom, turn off your camera, and walk away for 2 or 3 days. For the CSM class, you will also need to pass a fairly easy exam for certification. This exam is included in the cost of the class, but it is not administered during the class.
  • If I sign up for a class and can't attend...what happens then?
When you register for a class, you will receive contact information for the instructor of that specific class. Please contact the instructor immediately when you realize you cannot attend on the scheduled date(s) of the class. We have a general Refund and Cancellation policy, but the instructor may also have an additional policy you may need to be aware of. Please read the policy before you sign up for a class. Generally, we are going to do everything reasonable to make sure that you and the instructor are taken care of.
